Omicron Eta Omega Chapter History
On May 26, 1984, after operating as an interest group for one year, the Mystical Pearls became an official chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Omicron Eta Omega was chartered by our 20th Central Regional Director, Soror Mabel Evans Cason.
Under the leadership of Soror Angela Haywood Gaskin and fifteen charter members, Omicron Eta Omega established programs of service designed to positively impact the communities surrounding the city of St. Louis. These programs became the foundation for a legacy of service that has sustained the chapter for more than four decades.
Among the many initiatives implemented by the chapter are voter registration drives, scholarship fundraisers, tax preparation assistance programs, job skills training, and resume-writing workshops. As part of our international service initiatives, the chapter also contributed funding toward a water purification plant in Rwanda.
Since 1984, Omicron Eta Omega has maintained a strong presence at Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated events and conferences, including every Boule, Leadership Conference, Central Regional Conference, and Area Retreat. From California to the Bahamas, Washington, D.C., Jamaica, Las Vegas, and Alaska, Omicron Eta Omega has proudly been represented.
Our chapter was also in attendance at the First International Regional Conference held in Freeport, Bahamas. Participation in these conferences has provided opportunities for our members to remain engaged with the Sorority’s broader vision and to align our local programs with national initiatives and program targets as they evolve.
For more than four decades, Omicron Eta Omega has continued to build upon the vision of its charter members, demonstrating an enduring commitment to service, leadership, scholarship, and community impact.
