Called to Serve
International Program
Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood
Service and sisterhood have been the cornerstone of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® since 1908. With the theme, Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood, the 2022-2026 administration seeks to build upon Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s rich legacy of service by galvanizing our sisterhood of more than 120,000 active members to lead on the front lines of change, education, and advocacy.
This administration has six initiatives. Strengthen Our Sisterhood will serve as the administration’s “Foundation Initiative” as we strengthen our bonds to support our service mission.
The remaining five initiatives will serve as the “Program Initiatives” which include:
Empower Our Families
Build Our Economic Wealth
Enhance Our Environment
Advocate for Social Justice
Uplift Our Local Community
These initiatives are designed to improve the lives of those we serve. We will work collaboratively to maximize our outreach on progressive endeavors and consistently produce leaders who will advance our credo of service.
Chapter Signature Programs
Black College Bus Tour
Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) have served as institutions of higher learning for African Americans since 1964. These institutions continue to play a pivotal role in the academic pursuits of young people today.
Omicron Eta Omega chapter sponsors a week-long bus tour for highschool students in grades 9-12 of HBCUs every year in March. Students gain first hand exposure to what life is like at college through tours, meeting with academic advisors and talking to students. In addition to the campus tours, the experience includes site-seeing and even a little shopping.
Little Miss Fashionetta®
Little Miss Fashionetta is a 6-month experience for young girls, 9-12 years of age, that includes character building, community service, goal setting and leadership development. The culminating event is a pageant where the girls showcase their talents, receive awards and are presented to the community in cotillion attire. Proceeds from the pageant are returned to the community through philanthropic contributions and scholarships.
Girls Experiencing More Success (G.E.M.S.)
Girls Experiencing More Success (G.E.M.S.) is a year-long mentoring program for young girls in partnership with a local school district. Led by members of Omicron Eta Omega chapter, discussion topics include navigating social media, self image/self-esteem, goal setting and healthy relationships.
